A Guide To Poodle Grooming

Of all the different breeds of dog that one can choose from,
the Poodle is definitely one of the favorites. This is for
very good reason though, as they are loyal, sensitive and
beautiful dogs, if well taken care of. Their long and unique
coat is one of the most interesting things about them and
why so many people love them so much. Poodle grooming takes
a lot of time and effort however, and anyone considering
getting a Poodle should take this into consideration first.

Poodle grooming is a very important issue that any current
or potential Poodle owner should be aware of and educated
about. There is a lot that goes into Poodle grooming, and
this includes brushing, bathing, trimming, clipping and
combing, just to name a few of the many aspects that are be
involved. Grooming is actually the most expensive and
challenging part of owning a Poodle, but it is essential
that every Poodle owner be sure it is done, whether it is
actually the owner doing the work here or a professional dog
groomer.

There are many aspects that are important when it comes to
Poodle grooming, and one of the most important is brushing.
Thorough brushing should be done both before and after every
bath, but it is important not to go overboard with the
brushing because this can result in causing balding. Bathing
is also very important and should be done frequently, at
least once a week.

Also, like many other long coated breeds, hair shedding can
be a serious problem and so brushing is a very important
step in Poodle grooming as well. Hair shedding that is not
removed will begin to tangle and mat and most likely fall
out onto the floor and furniture.

Matting is particularly bad for a Poodle because it may
cause the dog discomfort and even harm their skin. To avoid
this, owners should make sure that they brush their Poodle’s
hair on a daily basis if possible, but no more because this
may result in balding.

Look at pictures of different Poodles to decide what kind of
hair cut to get for your dog. Of the many Poodle cuts there
are the short, all over clip is the most popular. It is
easy to maintain, every four to six weeks, and keeps your
Poodle neat and clean. Of course, a show Poodle must get a
very specific hair cut as described by the dog club, such as
the American Kennel Club. If your Poodle is simply a pet,
you can choose any Poodle cut you like. A shorter cut means
that a weekly bath and minimal brushing will easily maintain
the coat.

A good idea is to speak to friends and family members and
see if any of them have dealt with a professional groomer
before, for some firsthand opinions on which groomers are
worth checking out and which are not. Another good idea is
to actually go and visit any potential groomers, to be able
to assess the general environment, cleanliness and noise
level of the shop.

Keep in mind that there are professional groomers who are
willing to come into the person’s home to groom the dog.
This is very convenient, although there may be an additional
cost for this.
